"Peptides are just expensive water": myth check
JUL 12 2026 · 5 MIN
The claim comes up in every comment section: peptides are a marketing gimmick, water with a price tag.
Where the myth is wrong
Peptides are just short chains of amino acids, and plenty of them are unambiguously bioactive. Insulin is a peptide. So is GLP-1. The category isn't fake; the biology is textbook PMID 25450771 ↗.
Where the myth is right
But "peptide" on a supplement label tells you nothing about whether that specific molecule survives digestion, reaches a target, or does anything at the dose sold. Oral peptides in particular face a brutal bioavailability problem PMID 15984901 ↗. A lot of what's marketed is, functionally, expensive water.
Verdict
Depends who sold it to you. The molecule class is real. The specific product might still be a scam. Cite it or don't buy it.
