What GHK-Cu is
GHK-Cu is a copper-binding tripeptide (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine) that naturally declines with age. Unlike most of the peptide-hype catalog, it has a genuine human-relevant literature.
The evidence, cited
- Stimulates connective tissue and collagen accumulation in vivo, measured directly, though in animals PMID 8227353 ↗.
- Antioxidant activity and a protective role against oxidative stress PMID 22666519 ↗.
- The human work is topical: a controlled trial in CO2 laser-resurfaced skin PMID 16847171 ↗.
- Included in an independent systematic review of over-the-counter antiaging agents PMID 32882685 ↗.
Mechanism first. The topical human data is real, but it's one trial, not a literature.
The honest caveats
"Better-supported than the field" is a low bar. Cosmetic peptide research is small and often industry-run. Topical results are modest and slow. And none of this is a treatment for a medical condition.
Two things worth being straight about. The collagen measurements are animal work; the human evidence is a single topical trial in already-injured skin, which is not the same as showing it does much on ordinary skin. And if you've seen GHK-Cu sold for injection, note that essentially none of the human data runs through that route. The studies above are topical.
